Clarity. Strategy. Organized Growth.
About us
Hill Country Consultants gives small and mid-size businesses the capability of a full staff without the payroll. For one flat monthly fee, we handle the administrative work that quietly eats a business alive: documentation, compliance, coordination, and the systems that hold it all together.
We serve six industries — construction and contractors, authors and personal brands, food and hospitality, small and mid-size business, nonprofits, and landowners and agriculture. We've been working with businesses nationwide since 2024.
The role
You bring the client in. Then you're the one who takes care of them.
Most firms split those two jobs. Someone sells, someone else delivers, and the client finds out in week three that what was promised isn't what's happening. We don't work that way. The business owner who signs with you sees your face again on Monday.
About 75% client work, about 25% sales. The majority of your week is taking care of the accounts you hold. The rest is bringing in new ones — and you won't start from a blank page. You'll be given a local leads sheet to work from on day one.
It's an unusual structure, and it's the reason people stay in this seat. You're never selling something you'll have to hand off and hope goes well. And you're never handed an account you had no part in shaping.
What you'll do
Bringing clients in · about 25%
- Work the local leads sheet you're given, and build your pipeline from there
- Meet business owners through referrals, professional networks, trade associations, chambers and industry events
- Follow up on inbound inquiries
- Run free 30-minute strategy sessions
- Ask good questions and listen — you'll leave every conversation knowing what that business actually struggles with
- Recommend the right level of service based on what you heard
- Walk clients through terms accurately and close the agreement
Taking care of them · about 75%
Once the agreement is signed, you're the firm to that client:
- Assemble construction submittal packages — manufacturer cut sheets, submittal index, marked project data, Bates numbering, transmittals, compliance checklists and RFIs, all on the client's letterhead. Construction is our largest industry and this is our most technical service; you'll be trained on it and it will be a real part of your week.
- Prepare, format and proof business documents, reports, forms and packages
- Track licenses, permits, insurance certificates and renewal deadlines — and give clients warning before a deadline, not after
- Manage inboxes and calendars; handle scheduling, travel and appointment coordination
- Follow up with vendors, subcontractors and stakeholders until things actually get done
- Set up and maintain CRM records, files and organized systems
- Track projects against milestones and deadlines
- Support social media scheduling, email campaigns and light graphics on some accounts
- Send each client a weekly summary of what was done, and keep a shared task board current so they never have to ask
Depending on the client, that work might be submittal packages for a contractor, grant applications for a nonprofit, compliance calendars for a restaurant, or manuscript preparation for an author. We'll train you on what your accounts need.
What we're looking for
- At least two years of sales experience. Retainers, services, memberships, retail, insurance, real estate, recruiting, fundraising, event or ad sales — the product matters far less than whether you've sat in front of someone, asked for a decision, and handled being told no. Account management or client success where you carried a renewal or expansion number counts too.
- You can hold a real conversation with a stranger and stay in it when it gets uncomfortable
- You listen more than you talk
- You're organized enough to run several client accounts at once without dropping one. This is the part of the job that separates people.
- You write clearly and correctly — documents you prepare go to architects, funders, lenders and inspectors
- You'd rather say "let me confirm that and get right back to you" than guess
- You can hear no and come back the next day
- Comfortable with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and quick on new software
- Able to find your way around a website and an internal portal on your own
- Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, private space you can take client calls from
Helpful but not required: experience in construction — submittals, bids, prequalification or project documentation is a strong advantage, since it's our largest industry. Also helpful: food service, agriculture, publishing, media or nonprofit work. Prior administrative, executive assistant, office manager or coordinator experience transfers directly.
What we offer
- Paid training. A structured two-day program covering discovery, objection handling and closing the way we do it, plus our service standards. You bring the instinct; we give you the structure.
- A real onboarding. Your first weeks are supported and reviewed, with coaching after every client conversation. You won't be handed a phone list and left alone.
- Ongoing coaching — not a one-time orientation that's forgotten by month three.
- Tools that work from your phone. Everything you need is online and mobile-friendly.
- Something worth selling. Every client gets a 30-day roadmap, a shared task board, weekly reports and a running work log. Most firms your prospects have hired before couldn't tell them what happened last week. You can show them.
Schedule
You work your own time zone. We serve clients nationwide and we staff across all U.S. time zones, so your hours run on local time wherever you are — not on somebody else's clock.
Firm hours are Monday & Friday 9–5 · Tuesday & Thursday 11–7 · Wednesday & Sunday closed · Saturday by preapproved appointment, applied in your zone. Our public-facing hours are published in Eastern Time; as an employee you work that same weekly pattern in your own time zone. You'll be matched to clients where that schedule works for both of you.
Part-time: four paid hours per day, flexible within those windows. Additional approved hours are available on accounts that need them.
Who you'll work with
You report to an Accounts Manager, who is your day-to-day support — they approve your work, coach you, and are the person you go to when something needs a decision. Accounts Managers report to our Business Manager, who reports to the Administrator.
It's a small firm. You'll know everyone.
Equipment and security
Because we handle client data, every role meets the same baseline:
- A Windows computer with a dual-monitor setup
- A wired Ethernet connection — not Wi-Fi only
- A smartphone and/or tablet that can run apps
- Antivirus, and an updated, encrypted Windows installation
- Two-factor authentication on all work accounts
- A secured home network
- A signed confidentiality agreement
- Consent to a background check
Compensation
$10.00 per hour base, for all hours — selling and client work alike.
Commission on top of base:
- 15% of every initial sale
- 5% of every recurring payment after that, for as long as that client stays with us
- 10% on standalone and one-time services
All commissions are calculated on revenue actually collected from the client — not merely contracted — and are released after the client has been retained three months. If a client cancels or is refunded before commission is released, that sale isn't credited; a clawback applies if a refund follows a release.
Base pay grows with results. Your base rate is reviewed within your first 90 days and quarterly after that. "Cumulative credited sales" means every sale credited to you across your time here — initial, recurring, and standalone — counted on collected revenue. Once that total reaches $14,000, you become eligible for an increase up to $17.00 per hour at your next review — it's an eligibility threshold, not an automatic bump, and the review is where it's decided.
The recurring commission is the point. A client who stays is worth far more than one who signs and leaves — and since you're the one doing their work, keeping them is largely in your hands. We're direct about this: the base is a floor, not the income. This role is built for someone who wants their effort to show up in their check.
